On a Lighter Note

I hope this is true!

"Why The Next Big Pop-Culture Wave After Cupcakes Might Be Libraries"

I'm all in favor of a pop-culture wave that centers around reading instead of frosting. And I say that as a lover of frosting. However, if I could only choose one, well... for chrissakes obviously it would be READING. Jesus!!

Oh man, I am so torn over this. I mean, of course it's great, but libraries have always been a sort of refuge for me. I almost hate to see them get popular...

Believe it or not, I was thinking about you when I read this article! I'm still so intrigued by your design-meets-library-science idea. You must keep me updated if/when you look into it more and what all it would entail. It really seems like something I'd love to be involved with.

As far as sharing our libraries, I hear ya. In my Utopian mind, I can only hope that IF (and let's face it, it's probably an IF at best) libraries become really popular, at least they can get proper funding and more resources.

[Are we all done laughing yet? What the hell dream planet am I on, anyway??]

I would love to see libraries (i.e. "booklearnin") become a hotter trend then, say, wheelie shoes or glittery Vampires (Glampires???). But I would hate to see their popularity bring the Starbucks's and McDonalds's in to set up shop. But hey- there's your McFunding right there! NOM NOM NOM

Vee is not wrong. But now the San Francisco Public Library (which is awesome, incidentally) will let me download audiobooks from their website. Given that I spend about 14 hours a week either commuting or running, it makes for plenty of time to get my ears reading...

I think Durham libraries will let you download audiobooks, too. I need to look into that again - I remember checking out the available titles a long time ago and it was a lot of Sue Grafton-esque stuff... I'm sure the choices have improved.

On another bookly note, I bought a friend the 1st volume of the Hunger Games series for her bday this weekend. I will be reading it when she finishes! Thanks for the tip.
